local Montreal small businesses

It's been a little while since posting any updates from Montreal, so thought it might be helpful to start with a few local, small businesses that I have had a chance to work with.

cross country skiing through pine trees outside Montreal

Just 40 kilometres west of Montréal, Québec is an area called La Pinière, a pine forest which includes the Base de Plein Air des Cèdres. Beautifully groomed ski trails for both classic and skating cross several ravines, and this day towards the end of January the skiing conditions were just fantastic. The bonus of winter time is the ability to enjoy outdoor snow sports!

first cross training sessions for Cabot Trail Relay race

Monday and Tuesday, I did my first cross-training sessions in preparation for May's Cabot Trail Relay Race, celebrating the (relatively) mild weather of -10 degrees Celsius to use the cross country ski loop in Les Cedres. Monday I went on my own for the full 9.5km loop, and yesterday was a gorgeous day so Elizabeth joined as well. The snow and trees were beautiful, hardly a breath of wind, and the ski tracks had been done earlier that morning and were smooth and fast. Hopefully we'll have more mild days and I'll post better photos of the Base de Plein Air des Cèdres.

Tourism Montreal - Biodome and Insectarium trip

Here's a video from Tourism Montreal that highlights two very cool activities to do in the city - the Biodome and Insectarium. Unfortunately, this video is only in French, but it's still worthwhile just to see the interesting animals. The Biodome has 3 distinct areas - tropical, arctic / antarctic, and the local Laurentian Forest region; each one has animals living in their native conditions, and the arctic section with free flying birds is especially interesting. The Insectarium is not for the squeamish, but if you can handle the site of both live insects and those on display, it's great fun for the kids!

24 hour whirlwind cultural and nightlife tour of Montreal

Follow this attractive host as she tours Montreal, Quebec in 24 hours. Passing through museums, restaurants, shopping then finally to some clubs and after hour parties, this video does give a sense of the diversity Montreal has to offer, all within walking distance. I just wish she had named some of the venues to help tourists and those planning to visit the city for just a short time, as she did...
